Lockheed C-130

The Lockheed C-130 Hercules was a four-engine military aircraft, developed in the early 1950s, then entering service in 1956. Lockheed aspired to propose an aircraft for a U.S. Air Force requirement for a cargo transport aircraft with greater capacities. The C-130 was designed for takeoffs and landings from unprepared surfaces or runways, and with a versatile airframe, modifiable for several military operations the aircraft became a rapid success. Other than the originally intended troop, medevac and cargo operations, the C-130 and its variants were utilised as a gunship, airborne assault aircraft and maritime patrol.
