The Eurofighter Typhoon is a twin-engine canard delta wing multirole fighter, built by a number of manufacturers forming a consortium, with the holding company Eurofighter Jagdflugzeug GmbH. The Typhoon was originally intended to enter the market as a superiority fighter when development begun in 1983. The consortium designed a highly agile fighter, optimised for both low- and high-speed operations while retaining its maneuverability. The Typhoon is constructed of composite material to maintain lightness, powered by Eurojet EJ200 engines, enabling supercruise performance. The Typhoon has several hardpoints for a variety of armament and ordnance, as well as drop-tanks. The configuration made the Typhoon an particularly effective dogfighter, however it was optimised to fulfill a number of other roles, such as aerial reconnaissance and other air-defence duties.
