The Saab 91 Safir is a single engine trainer aircraft, introduced in 1946 by Saab. The design for the light trainer Safir was conceived as a compensation for the reducing orders for military aircrafts after the Second World War. Some conceptual aspects of the Safire reflect the predecessing Bücker Bü 181, as both were designed and developed by Anders J. Andersson. The design was finalised with a de Havilland Gipsy Major engine, and got designated the Saab 91A name moving forward to production. As well as its success as a trainer aircraft, the Safir was also suitable as an aerodynamic testbed, and had been modified to test the swept wing later used in the Saab 29 Tunnan.
