Saab 29 Tunnan

The Saab 29 Tunnan is a fighter aircraft, designed and manufactured by Saab in the 1940s. The design came about just after the Second World War, following the identified need of stronger air defence forces in the Swedish military. At the time, Saab was also aspiring to utilise their newly developed jet propulsion technology, as well as to introduce other innovations into the aviation market. The Saab 29 Tunnan was a small but powerful aircraft, utilising the DeHavilland Ghost engine, which allowed the Tunnan to perform speeds that overtook the DeHavilland fleet, possessed by the Swedish military at the time. Productions lasted between 1948 and 1956, with the last aircraft retiring in 1976.
