Eurocopter Sa330 Puma

The Aérospatiale SA 330 Puma is a twin-engined, medium utility helicopter. The design came about as a proposal by Sud Aviation for a requirement issued by the French Army, for a medium-sized transport helicopter that can accomodate for up to 20 troops, and can perform in harsh weather conditions. The French government supplied financial backing for the clean-sheet design in 1963. The focus of the project was primarily a versatile cargo/passenger space, that can be configured for specific military duties. To also achieve high speed and endurance under extreme circumstances, the SA 330 Puma was installed with twin roof-mounted Turbomeca Turmo engines, powering a four-blade rotor. The Puma was soon developed into more advanced models, such as the AS332 Super Puma and AS532 Cougar.
