The de Havilland Canada DHC-4 Caribou is a specialized cargo aircraft, manufactured by De Havilland Canada. First flown in 1958, the Caribou was the third aircraft design with STOL capabilities in the history of the company, as well as De Havilland’s first aircraft utilising two engines. The design was similar but significantly larger than the predecessing DHC Beaver’s or DHC Otter’s, while maintaining the ruggedness of these aircrafts it had an extended fuselage. The majority of the DHC-4 Caribou was utilised for military operations, along with a smaller number of commercial use. Today, the aircraft mainly retired from military operations, however is still in use in small numbers as a rugged “bush” aircraft.
