The Defender is a multi-role utility transport aircraft, manufactured by Britten-Norman, derived from the Britten-Norman Islander. The BN-2T Defender is a military variant, designated for roles such as utility transport, medevac, air control, patrol or light attack. To accomodate for the new roles, the Defender was designed with an extended airframe, as well as with four underwing hardpoints for pylons, allowing for 2,500 pounds of additional load, depending on configuration. The Defender had first flow in 1970. The BN-2T-4S Defender 4000 was optimised for aerial surveillance, being an enhanced version of the BN-2T Defender. intended for the aerial surveillance role. The Defender 4000 had an extended fuselage, improved nose and wing structure, with payload further expanded. The Defender 4000 entered production in 1997.
