Following the success of the Learjet 25 series, the company had started experimenting with creating a new design around 1970, in which they replaced the CJ610 turbojet engine with the TFE 731. The results were a significant decrease in noise levels, along with increased power. Learjet elected the new design as the Learjet 35, instead of a variant to the 25 series. The Learjet 35 was used as a business jet and military transport aircraft, just like it’s succesor the Learjet 36. The C-21 military variant was a modified 35A utilised by the U.S. Air Force, for passenger and cargo transport, and was also applied in medevec operations. The first model was delivered in 1984, and had entered service the same year.
