Airbus Helicopter (Eurocopter) HH-65A Dolphin

The Eurocopter HH-65 Dolphin is a twin-engined helicopter, and a modified variant of the Eurocopter AS365 Dauphin. The HH-65 Dolphin was optimised for search and rescue application after being chosen by the U.S. Coast Guard in 1979, to replace the Sikorsky HH-52A helicopter, which was utilised for short range recovery at the time. The new Dolphin was equipped with twin Lycoming LTS-101 engines, mounted in a corrosion-resistant composite airframe. The avionics used in the Dolphin were unique in terms of enabling automatic flight control, which was possible through a computerized flight management system, new in the aviation market at the time.
