The AgustaWestland AW169 is a twin-engine helicopter developed and manufactured by the helicopter division of Leonardo, (formerly the company AgustaWestland). AgustaWestland describes the AW169 as a light-intermediate, twin-engine utility helicopter. When commencing development of the design, there was great focus on lowering costs for production, operation and maintenance of the aircraft. AgustaWestland made a decision for the AW169 to share the cockpit configuration and a number of components with the predecessing AgustaWestland AW139 and AW189. The final design for the AW169 features a pair of Pratt & Whitney Canada PW210A FADEC turboshaft powerplants, driving the advanced main rotor at variable speeds, hence reducing the external noise, while also improving efficiency. The AW169 is installed with electronically actuated landing gear, the first helicopter with this capability in its category.
