The Aermacchi MB-335 (now AM.3) was initially manufactured by Aermacchi and Aeritalia (then Aerfer Industrie Aerospaziali Meridionali). The Pilot and observer are in tandem positions and the aircraft features dual controls. There is functional space towards the rear of the aircraft, allowing space for two stretchers or seat space for additional passengers or freight transport.
Two underwing pylons can carry 170 kg (375 lb) of stores each.
